About me

I am a middle-aged, cradle-Catholic with a degree in Theology, a Masters in Religious Education, and 27 years of theology teaching experience — mainly High School some College. Now I work as an Administrative Assistant in a Jewish Synagogue.

I am a wife, and a mother of two sons.

I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse.

I am the mother of a suicide victim.

And in 2005 I managed to make it through Hurricane Katrina.

I love my family. I love to write. I am not sure about the Church any more. And God and I are not currently speaking — but I haven’t given up.

I am currently working on a book on Grief and Loss that seems to be trying to become a book on Hope. We’ll see how it works out.

  1. I’m going to convert to Judaism as soon as i figure out how, and i get myself together. i was raised Christian, not catholic but the rules were just as bad. i like religion just not christianity, and Judaism appeals to me much more…interesting i think…

    • Judaism has its problems too. Every religion does because every religion is human in its derivation and in its organization. God or no God, religion is a human endeavor. That said, Reform Judaism is a very reasonable and liberal version of Judaism. I would only recommend this branch of Judaism. My rabbi is a woman and is open to people converting to Judaism. Some rabbis are more open to conversion than others. You might google reform synagogues in your area and check one out. Services are usually open to non-Jews at Reform synagogues so you could go sit in. What I miss in their services is actual prayer. This sounds weird, but like the Unitarian Universalists (a religion that is open to atheists!) Reform Jews talk about God and morality and have beautiful readings but don’t address God directly in prayer. I mis that. On the other hand…I can pray on my own, and the services are always beautiful and uplifting.

  2. Mona, I’m so glad to have “met” you through our blogs. Your writing is very moving. My heart breaks for what you and your family members have endured. I am inspired by your desire to heal and write. I look forward to reading through more of your work and following you. I wish you peace and love.
